Assoc Prof Leslie Lim
Senior Consultant, Dept of Psychiatry, Singapore General Hospital
Clinical Associate Professor, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore
Adj. Associate Professor,Duke Graduate NUS Medical School
My interest in psychiatry stemmed from interest in the study of emotions and behaviour. Fully aware that psychiatry is a highly stigmatized profession, I nevertheless chose to embark upon this specialty to help alleviate the suffering of those marginalized by their illness and treatment. It was a difficult decision as I had to leave behind my interest in Internal Medicine. I also had to forsake 3 overseas music scholarships to take up undergraduate training in the faculty of Medicine. I trained in Psychiatry at St George’s Hospital Medical School Psychiatry training programme in London. I was President of SAMH for 12 years.
