My interest in psychiatry stemmed from interest in the study of emotions and behaviour. Fully aware that psychiatry is a highly stigmatized profession, I nevertheless chose to embark upon this specialty to help alleviate the suffering of those marginalized by their illness and treatment. I also had to forsake 3 overseas music scholarships to take up undergraduate training in the faculty of Medicine.
