Activity Assistant (Craftwork) @ Pelangi Village

SAMH manages the Activity Hub, where psychosocial rehabilitative programmes are conducted to assist residents in their recovery from mental illness and to reintegrating them into the community. Activity Hub’s services include occupational therapy, social work, psychological services and vocational placements.


Contribute to promoting residents’ quality of life by focusing on the areas of work, activities of daily living and leisure activities as assigned.


  • Plan and conduct programs base on areas of leisure, work-related skills, daily living, emotional & mental related activities to engage residents in Pelangi Village with guidance from professional staff
  • Ensure program objectives, guidelines and outcomes are met and run as per schedule / time table. Programs conducted are craft-related, e.g. Sewing, Beading, Jewelry Making, Coaster Making, Soap Making, etc
  • Prepare and store materials / equipment before and after each session, if required
  • Ensure a safe environment and materials / items used are safe for the residents to handle during each session
  • Monitor and follow up on residents’ performance and update regularly to the professional staff
  • Research for crafts or items to cater for retail and constantly review to improve the standards of the products
  • Assist on 5 annual events in the Activity Hub
  • Work with the person in charge to ensure the events are well organized and coordinate staff, residents and volunteers to prepare for performance for the events
  • Provide talks and training for SAMH staff on craft-related topics
  • Train volunteers and interns to conduct craftwork sessions for residents
  • Assist in daily operations of the Activity Hub, e.g. incident reporting, crisis management, sending and receiving residents, etc
  • Ensure proper maintenance, collation and timely submission of statistics / period reports
  • Participate in Activity Hub programmes / events and other SAMH projects

Candidate Requirements:

Technical Competencies

  • ITE or Diploma in any discipline
  • Mininum 1 year of relevant experience
  • Must be proficient in MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint

  • Self motivated and resilience to serve the mental health population
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Independent and able to work in a team


  • Must be flexible to work beyond normal work schedule, when required
