SAMH Volunteer Programme comprises of a variety of volunteer activities at different centres, which seeks
to promote social and mental well-being of the people. The program includes Direct Service, Indirect Service
and Volunteer @ Pelangi Village.
The direct service includes
Recreation
Volunteers can assist in conducting activities and outings with clients at the Oasis Day Centre, Oasis Club and Bukit Batok Group Homes.
Befriending
By befriending clients and practising active listening, volunteers provide an opportunity for clients to learn how to interact appropriately with others.
Special Skills
Volunteers who have special talents (eg. art, drama or musical skills, etc), administrative, clerical, or public relations skills can help out in specialised tasks and activities.
For indirect service, volunteers can help during public forums in the area of
- providing transport / manpower to carry things
- ushering
- manning stalls (eg. handicraft, art pieces, etc)
Indirect service volunteering is needed on an ad-hoc basis.
Criteria
The selection criteria for indirect service during public forums are:
- 21 and above
- should not be diagnosed with mental illness (person with psychiatric conditions are strongly encouraged to join our service programmes as clients)
Frequency of Commitment
- for direct service, commitment level has to be regular (eg. once a week, once in 2 weeks, once a month, block period or as per discussed with Volunteer Coordinator)
- ad-hoc for indirect service

Following is a list of volunteer programmes at Activity Hub @ Pelangi Village (Buangkok Green)
- Tea, Coffee and Karaoke Club (recreational activities)
To facilitate / co-facilitate a group of 8 - 20 residents in leisure activities. Eg. Sports, karaoke, drum, dancing and cooking etc.
- Expressive Therapy
To assist the therapist in performance arts
- Art Therapy
To assist in art and craft sessions. To do touch ups, label and code artwork. To help market artwork
- Occupational Therapy
To assist the Occupational Therapists and Activity Supervisors with activities with the residents such as physical exercises, games etc.
To accompany residents on outings.
- Event Celebration
To help organize celebration, i.e.
- coordinating logistics, food
- putting up performances
- general work
- General upkeep and maintenance of premises and equipment
Cleaning up of office areas and compound; servicing of air-conditioners and computers
Requirements
