SAMH Counselling Services began in 1981 for persons with psychiatric, psychological, emotional or relationship issues and their families.

When to seek a counsellor?

When one is:

  • Troubled and confused
  • Stressed out
  • Worried, sad or unhappy
  • Having relationship problems
  • Having difficulties sleeping
  • Recovering from mental illness
  • Looking for more information on mental health

Professional Staff

Your concerns and questions will be addressed in a focused and timely manner by an experienced group of mental health professionals with training in psychology, social work and/or counselling.

    • 1800 283 7019
    • 9am – 1pm, 2pm – 6pm on weekdays (except public holidays)
    • For information or help on mental health matters and psychosocial issues
  • Individual counselling
    • For personal, social, work or stress-related and a variety of mental health problems
  • Marital/family counselling
    • For couples and families affected by mental health issues


Clients seeking counselling should call the toll-free helpline to arrange for an appointment with a counsellor. When necessary, clients may be referred to a psychiatrist or relevant agencies in the community.

First appointment will be scheduled during office hours.


Monday to Friday (except public holidays) 9am – 1pm and 2pm – 6pm.

Evening counselling available on Wednesdays, 6pm – 9pm (strictly by appointment for clients who are not able to come during office hours).


By donation only.


Approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour per session. The frequency and number of sessions varies according to the nature of issues and individual goals.
